At the Edge of the Bowl
The cat eats first,
graceful and watchful,
claiming the silence as its own.
The skunk arrives softly,
a shadow of gentle presence,
unafraid,
content to share the moment.
Later, the raccoon slips in,
curious hands seeking what remains,
patient in the rhythm of the night.
And last, the javelina wanders through,
trusting that there is always enough.
No one speaks.
No one commands.
The wild knows how to wait,
how to live side by side
without needing more than what is given.
It is only we
who have forgotten
how simple it can be.
